“Lots would say we’re at AGI. The term is poorly defined. We’re in a fuzzy period where it already happened.”
His new milestone: Superintelligence. When systems run countries, companies, labs better than any human can.
Stop debating AGI. Build for models that already beat experts 70%+ of the time.

Consumer products build familiarity, but enterprise deployments create durable revenue. Infrastructure is a long-term bet because demand for intelligence keeps growing. And the biggest wins come from redesigning work around agents, rather than bolting AI onto old tools.
Most teams are still chasing better models, even though the larger opportunity sits in deployment. There’s a wide gap between what AI can do and how much of that capability is actually being used. Closing that gap is where the value lives, whether you’re building a company, investing, or running an organization.

Thanks for this excellent summary and critique of the Altman interview. I find Altman to be a bit of a hype man (understandably), but I do think the business opportunity that no one is really talking about is the effective 'retrofitting' of AI onto legal companies. Someone is poised to make generational fortunes here...
Fantastic breakdown of Altman's interview. The memory-over-raw-intelligence argument really nails why deployment lags so hard behind capability. I've seen this in practice at a couple companies where they keep asking the model the same basic questions, never build context into the workflow, and then complain it's not worth the hype. The toothpaste analogy is spot-on tho, becuz once you experince a model that remembers your preferences and actually learns your patterns, switching back feels broken.
